When you e-file your income tax return, you do not need to manually send a document to the CPC, Bangalore anymore. You can simply have an Electronic Verification Code generated and complete the e-verification transaction done in real-time smoother, faster and more conveniently.
After submitting your return and clicking on e-verify under the My Account tab on the income tax login portal, you will see three options:
- "I already have an EVC to e-verify their return."
- "I do not have an EVC and I would like to generate EVC to e-verify their return."
- “I would like to generate AADHAAR OTP to e-verify my return.”
Given below are the ways in which you can obtain the EVC or E-verification code:
- EVC received on Registered Mobile number and e-mail.
(Generated through e-Filing portal, valid for 72 hours). - AADHAAR OTP sent to your mobile
- EVC generated through Net Banking
- EVC generated through Bank Account Number
- EVC generated through Demat Account Number
- EVC generated Through Bank ATM
So, essentially, you can receive the EVC via SMS on the mobile number you have registered with the tax portal or with your AADHAAR. Alternatively, you may use Bank account details to have the EVC generated and complete the submission of your ITR-V online. In all cases, the code is sent to either the mobile or the email that you have registered or both.
The Electronic Verification Code is a substitute for a digital signature and signifies that you agree to the declarations made in your income tax return form.
E-verifying ITR V through Net-banking
By logging in to your net banking account and navigating to a tab that says something like, "Income tax e-filing" you can be redirected to the income tax portal. You must log in and go to View returns/forms to see e-filed tax returns and click on pending e-verification forms and e-verify them.
Obtain EVC through Bank Account Number
To obtain the EVC via your Bank Account Number your account number must be pre-validated with your PAN. Then it becomes very easy to get the EVC and acknowledgment done.
Obtain EVC via your Demat Account Number
The prerequisite here is that you must have pre-validated your Demat account number with your PAN. Once again, you will be asked to choose your depository account and your mobile and email IDs. Upon confirmation of these particulars, a code will be generated which you can use to e-verify the return. This mobile number and email ID must be the one that is registered with your Demat account.
Obtain EVC through ATM
The process of getting your verification code through an ATM is similar to the one for using your bank account number. You would have to physically visit an ATM and use your ATM pin to confirm your identity and have the code generated. This would then appear in your SMS and email which you can use on the income tax portal to verify your ITR.
